Sculptural Screen for ADORA Club House, Chennai

IGA’s USP: No copies, no repetitions. In an era when fine art pieces are produced, reproduced and multiply like rabbits do… IGA’s attempts are something of a departure from the norm. Every piece is conceptualized and designed keeping to the idea of the landscape, material, purpose of the art piece, architectural facets and goes without saying, the budget of the connoisseur. It’s fine art inhabiting our daily lives.

This one, at the Adora (Club House), Akshaya Homes, Chennai, a structure overlooking the great Bay of Bengal on OMR Road, was aimed to enhance the empty space created by the structure. It simply can be described as ‘play of lines’, from the beginning to its finish.

Line drawings, the first step

An assemblage of macquets being created in clay at IGA Bengaluru. Later these are translated into fiberglass and will be transferred to the site for assemblage.

The pieces being assembled at the site

The design executed by IGA associate Zarine Jamshedji adheres to the simplicity and minimalism of the landscape and the structure. “The space called for a dynamic, flowing pattern. The intention was to do it in a modular way. The entire work is done with only 6 modules disusing it with an appearance of a work with high variation,” says Zarine.

To complement the work are two landscape pots, by IGA associate Payal Garai, creating rhythm with lines on them... lines that take on the shapes of the ocean waves.

The pristine minimal white designs complement the clear open skies, green turfs and the simple structure, blurring the lines between fine art and architecture

The play of light and shadow created by the form of the piece reminds of boundaries… between art and everyday spaces, between nature and things that inhabit our daily lives. The material skills of using fiberglass reflect beauty not only in form but content as well.

Next time on your drive to Pondicherry from Chennai, we suggest, you look for this structure on the way. Only if the lines could fathom the depths of the ocean… passers by wonder.
